Class Syllabus
2017 - 2018
Teacher Information:
Lisa Eardley
Phone Number: 254-5130
E-mail Address: [email protected]
Units Taught in 6th Grade Science:
Scientific Processes
Structure, Function, and Information Processing
Engineering Design
Implemented throughout the year
Textbooks and Materials:
We will be using the Prentice Hall Series of Middle School Textbooks. Students will be assigned a textbook module to use for each unit. That book will be returned upon completion of the unit. Failure to return a book will result in a $15 book replacement fee at the end of the school year.
Each day students will need to bring a folder and or binder that will only used for science. We will also be using a journal through out the year. Journals will be collected at various times to be graded; therefore, it should be a one subject notebook just for science. The science journal should be brought home regularly to review, as it will be a great resource to help prepare for tests and quizzes.
Grading Policy:
The 6th grade will be using a 70/30 grading system. 70% of the student’s overall grade will be determined by assessments such as tests, quizzes, and Exams. 30% of the overall grade will be determined by daily work and notes. Projects that are turned in late will loose 10% per day. Late homework assignments can be turned in for partial credit the next day or for full credit if turned in with a homework pass.
Test Retake:
Students will be given one opportunity to redo an assessment. To be eligible for a retest the following MUST be done:
1. The student (not parent) must request a retest within 3 days of the graded test being passed back.
2. The student must complete a request for retest sheet before taking the test.
3. The student must schedule the retest with me. This may be before school, after school, or during lunch.
4. The retake grade will be the final grade, as the first grade will become null and void.
